(San Francisco) Bumble, one of the world’s most widely used dating apps, will cut about 350 jobs this year, following many other technology companies seeking to cut costs.
The American company thus intends to “better align its operating model with future strategic priorities”, according to its quarterly results press release published Tuesday, where it announces its decision.
This restructuring plan corresponds to approximately a third of its workforce. Bumble employed more than 950 people at the end of December 2022, according to an official document filed with the American stock market watchdog (SEC).
The Texas-based company has however reduced its net losses to $32 million for the fourth quarter of 2023, instead of $159 million last year in the same period. And its turnover increased by 13%, to $274 million.
But its stock plunged nearly 8% during electronic trading after the close of the New York Stock Exchange.
Lidiane Jones, the boss of Bumble, welcomed the solid results in the press release, and assured that the “transformation of the organization” will help it “provide users with new and attractive experiences that create healthy and balanced relationships” .
Earlier Tuesday, the Japanese group Sony announced the layoff of 8% of PlayStation’s global workforce, or 900 people worldwide.
In total, last year, “tech” companies lost 260,000 jobs, according to layoffs.fyi, a Californian site that tracks developments in the sector.
Since the start of the year, layoffs have amounted to nearly 44,000 people, according to the site, in 171 companies.
