Danse Danse raises the curtain on its 27th season

The broadcaster Danse Danse has the wind in its sails, while its 2024-2025 season includes a record number of shows.

In all, 17 events, and companies from diverse backgrounds, both geographically (Taiwan, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, United Kingdom) and artistically. Indeed, we will be able to see tap dance, krump, urban and contemporary dance, intimate and virtuosity, revisited classics and all new creations.

Thus, Ballet BC returns with its rereading of Bolero by Ravel, Bolero X (October 2024), when we will finally be able to see the fruit of the collaboration between star dancer and choreographer Guillaume Côté and director Robert Lepage, who will offer their reinterpretation of Hamlet (February 2025)

The British Botis Seva and his company BLKDOG question our capacity for resilience with striking gestures mixing hip-hop and contemporary dance; for its part, the flagship contemporary dance company in Aise, Cloud Gate Dance Theater of Taiwan returns to Montreal with a creation inspired by the Icelandic sky, Lunar Haloin harmony with the music of Sigur Rós (November 2024).

The public here will have the chance to see the most recent creation by Canadian-Colombian choreographer Andrea Peña, BOGOTÁ, presented at the opening of the 17e Venice Biennale and which immerses us in the teeming Colombian capital (December 2024), while Carcaçaby choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira, will show us the incredible driving force of the body at the end of the season (May 2025).

Still on the other side of the Atlantic, the Belgian company Peeping Tom and its offbeat universe promises the extraordinary and the unbridled, at the crossroads of dance, theater and cinema, with Triptychbehind closed doors, while the Swiss choreographer Philippe Saire draws inspiration from the characters of Large notebook by Agota Kristof (April 2025)

Another proposal that is surprising to say the least: Silent Legacya meeting between contemporary dance and krump orchestrated by French choreographer Maud Le Pladec, featuring krump child prodigy, Adeline Karry Cruz, aged only 11 (February-March 2025).

As for tap, it will be in the spotlight in January 2025 with Ontario’s Travis Knights, who is said to be putting on his most ambitious show to date.

Local creators occupy a large part of the programming, as always: José Navas with Aves (October 2024), Sylvain Émard with Magnetic Fields (January-February 2025), Alan Lake with Drinking from volcanoes (April 2024) or the piece Night by Jean-Pierre Perreault, recreated in its original form (March 2024).

As for the JOAT International Street Dance Festival, it will be back for a third consecutive year, in September.
