Danse Danse deplores the “censorship” of Meta

A photo and video of bare-chested dancers posted on Danse Danse’s social media have been deleted by digital giant Meta. The Montreal broadcaster deplores the “censorship” of these images taken from its next show, M.

In order to promote this new creation by Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Danse Danse posted the show’s trailer on Instagram as well as a photo of it on Facebook. Within days of each other, both items were erased by Meta. The broadcaster claims that in the event of a repeat offense, the Facebook page is threatened with deletion.

In two messages addressed to Danse Danse, the digital giant indicates that the photo “violated the policies of Facebook” and that it did not respect the rules established in terms of nudity and sexuality.

According to the social network’s help page for businesses, there are exceptions to these rules, among others for “photos of paintings, sculptures or other works of art representing naked figures”, argues Danse Danse .

“In the light of this censorship, Danse Danse wonders about the possibilities of promoting living art, which is often based on the beauty and freedom of the body”, deplores the broadcaster, in a press release.

This is the first time that Danse Danse has seen one of its publications deleted on social networks.
