“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer work as an actor”declared his spokesperson Leslee Dart in 2017. The Irish-British actor then aged 60 said he “Immensely grateful to all his collaborators and the public”. Seven years later, the actor returned to the sets to film in the first film of his son Ronan Day-Lewis, a 26-year-old painter, revealed the American independent production house Focus Features on Tuesday October 1.
An actor as rare as he is demanding, limiting his appearances on screen to better immerse himself in his characters, Daniel Day-Lewis was the first to win three Oscars for best actor in a leading role (My Left Foot in 1990, There Will Be Blood in 2008 and Lincoln in 2012).
Son of the famous British poet Cecil Day-Lewis, the actor born in London in April 1957 had already taken the time to take a break from cinema after THE Boxer in 1997, and became an apprentice shoemaker in Italy, reconnecting with his youthful love of the craft. Leonardo DiCaprio, however, managed to bring him back in front of the camera to Gangs of New York by Martin Scorsese (2002), where he plays the terrifying Bill the Butcher.
Seven years after his role as a fashion designer evolving in high London society in the 1950s in Phantom ThreadDaniel Day-Lewis therefore turns in Anemonefor which we do not yet have a release date in France. Father and son Day-Lewis co-wrote the screenplay which explores family ties, particularly the relationships between fathers, sons and brothers. According to the Hollywood ReporterSean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green complete the cast.
