Daniel Brière’s son dumped by his university

Amid a scandal for throwing a wheelchair down stairs, the son of former player and current Philadelphia Flyers interim general manager Daniel Brière has been kicked out of his varsity hockey team.

“Carson Briere has been removed from the Mercyhurst University men’s ice hockey team. Mercyhurst cannot comment further on this,” the institution said in a statement posted on the Mercyhurst Lakers Twitter account.

In March, a video surfaced on social media where Carson Brière can be seen throwing a wheelchair down a flight of stairs inside a bar. The chair in question belonged to a person with a disability, who needed the help of friends to get to the bathroom in the basement.

The son of the man who wore the colors of the Montreal Canadiens in 2013-2014 and one of his friends face charges of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct in this case. Specifically, the charges include “damaging property and criminal conspiracy to commit mischief.” Both men will appear in court in Erie, Pennsylvania on May 22 for their preliminary investigation.

Mercyhurst University had previously suspended Carson Brière. In 2022-2023, his third season with the Lakers, the 23-year-old forward had five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 30 games.

“I am deeply sorry for my behavior. There is no excuse for my actions and I will do everything I can to redeem this serious lack of judgment,” said Carson Brière in a press release published on March 15.

“I was in shock seeing Carson’s actions in this video shared on social media. They are inexcusable and go completely against our family values of respect for people. Carson is sorry and takes full responsibility for his way of acting,” said his father.
