Daniel Belanger | A new album, Mercure in May, in October

Two weeks after titillating his followers with a few seconds of a brand new song posted on social networks, Daniel Bélanger finally offers them the opium of the first full extract from his tenth album, Mercury in Mayexpected on October 14.

“We are both so good, you and me together,” sings Daniel Bélanger, who could very well be addressing his audience, but who is probably speaking, more likely, to a loved one.

If we have to rely on the ethereal and sumptuous sounds of I hear everything playing (in your head)this next album entitled Mercury in May will perhaps be the one most resembling, for twenty years, dream betterhis magnum opus, launched in 2001. The musician who now has the habit of recording the most tracks alone, in the studio, has surrounded himself with a small team, made up of bassist Guillaume Doiron and drummer Robbie Kuster ( Patrick Watson).

Mercury in May marks a return to singing for Daniel Bélanger, whose previous album, Tracking (2020), consisted entirely of instrumental pieces. The musician recently signed the soundtrack for one of the summer successes of Quebec cinema, confessionsdirected by Luc Picard and will publish in a few days a first collection of poetry, Heavy weightswith red herbs.

This tenth album also inaugurates the agreement binding Bélanger to his new record company, Secret City Records (Alexandra Stéliski, Klô Pelgag, The Barr Brothers). All of his musical work had so far appeared on Audiogram, a label founded by his brother Michel, which Quebecor acquired in February 2021.
