The underwater canyon of the gouf de Capbreton, off the Landes coast, is home to certain animal species coming straight from the warm seas. They make Lilian happy Haristoywildlife photographer passionate about underwater wildlife.
A few kilometers from Capbreton, in the Landes, Lilian Haristoy, image hunter, has found his happiness: bottlenose dolphins of four meters. “We will stay at a respectable distance, to see how they play”, he confides. Gaining confidence, the cetaceans then let the photographer approach, who captures them very closely.
If the animals can be crossed so close to the coast, it is thanks to the seabed of 4,500 meters close to the coast, which offers abundant food. Further offshore, the image hunter discovers about fifty pilot whales, dolphins with a globe on their head. “A tool (…) that allows them to hunt, to orient themselves”, explains Lilian Haristoy. The animals meet for the spring migration, an appointment that the marine wildlife enthusiast never misses.
