“Dance of Love,” Tucker Zimmerman

American singer-songwriter Tucker Zimmerman is a well-kept secret among folk aficionados. Directed by Tony Visconti, Ten Songs (1969) would have been one of Bowie’s favorite albums; a handful of albums later, Zimmerman left the scene. We discover that he has composed a little, written more, since the Belgian countryside where he settled, it is said, in the 1980s. Among his fans, the impeccable alt-country-folk orchestra Big Thief, who shook the 82-year-old musician’s fleas until he agreed to spend time in the studio. With the result of this endearing Dance of Love : hear her sing a duet with Adrianne Lenker on Idiot’s Maze at the start of the album, whipped by sparkling drums and an almost rock acoustic guitar motif, makes you smile. Between the eldest and his fans, the complicity is obvious. And again, these verses exchanged between Lenker and Zimmerman on the tender Lorelei And Burial at Seathe delicate, naked accompaniment of Big Thief, demonstrate immense respect for this forgotten figure of Americana.
