(Toronto) Jonathan Quick made 33 saves and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Maple Leafs 5-1 on Monday night to end the Torontonians’ five-game winning streak.
Phillip Danault had two goals and an assist for the Kings, who posted a fifth straight victory.
Andreas Athanasiou had a goal and an assist as Trevor Moore and Adrian Kempe found the back of the net once each for the California team. Alex Iafallo prepared two goals.
John Tavares replied for the Maple Leafs. Jack Campbell, who was Quick’s backup in Los Angeles, blocked 24 pucks in his first career start against his former team.
After sending a puck to the post, Moore mocked former Maple Leafs teammates Timothy Liljegren and Rasmus Sandin to open the scoring. Athanasiou doubled the Kings lead by outflanking Jake Muzzin before deceiving Campbell’s vigilance.
The Maple Leafs took advantage of a power play to close the gap in the second engagement. Tavares completed a staging by Mitch Marner and William Nylander to score his seventh goal of the campaign.
Danault put the Kings back on a two-goal priority in the second period and dealt the home side a hard blow in the third period.
