Peanut butter, very popular with athletes, is consumed more and more in Europe. In France, the brand Dakatine is also a discreet essential.

In the kitchens of the restaurant “Les Chauvins père et fils” in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), a new dessert is being prepared: a peanut butter shortbread tart. “It’s made in Strasbourg”, assures the manager, Yannick Bangratz. The Dakatine is indeed a peanut butter from Strasbourg, invented and manufactured at the city’s autonomous port since 1952.

The peanuts are first roasted in ovens at high temperature, before being crushed. The original recipe for Dakatine has not changed for 70 years: 97% peanut, a pinch of salt and palm oil. The windmills Advens produced the Dakatine quietly, almost discreetly. “We don’t know much more, how the brand was born, the little boy [sur le packaging] remains a mystery too “, recognizes Marie Lauler, the marketing manager of Moulins Advens. The Dakatine is despite everything one of the most famous brands of peanut butter in France. 2,400 tonnes are sold each year.
