The former premises of Le Lab bar, on Rachel, is no longer recognizable. Black has given way to lilac and cocktails to refreshing creations from Les Tropiques dairy. Opened discreetly last summer, the place now has a loyal clientele, not to mention all those who discover its frozen pleasures while passing by, since the place is in front of Parc Lafontaine.

Les Tropiques is the project of the couple made up of Christian Monette and Julie Tremblay. He worked as an engineer, in a factory, and wanted a change of scenery and atmosphere. She teaches physical education in high school. Both love the contact with customers. Their mission is very simple: to make people happy. Their reward? See the smile on people’s faces. “We sell happiness! “Launches Christian, smiling toothily himself.

Everyone finds their account in the Tropics. There are about 30 kinds of hard ice cream (including soy-based vegan options) and sorbets, soft cream to dip in dark chocolate, milk, caramel, dulce de leche — for more of gluttony. And multiple variations: affogato with vanilla soft serve, sundaes and milkshakes, the “abominable” yeti legs (vanilla soft serve dipped in chocolate) garnished with candies and jujubes, colorful Getafix potions, decadent concoction of slush , soft cream, cotton candy and topped with an avalanche of candies. There are even frozen treats for the dogs!
The couple are currently working on revamping the interior of the premises in order to install a café there where we can sit down. The business will thus be able to be open all year round. To be continued !
