Daft Punk rekindles the flame a year after their separation by broadcasting a live from 1997 on Twitch

In a few hours, the canvas ignited on Tuesday evening: Daft Punk, officially separated a year ago to the day (February 22, 2021), repointed the end of its helmets by launching a channel on Twitch, the broadcasting platform live content, and by reviving its Instagram and Twitter accounts. A reformation? Apparently not, but a nice gift and a great publicity stunt.

The gift, first: Daft Punk offered its fans Tuesday evening by streaming on Twitch an unprecedented live, filmed at the Mayan Theater in 1997 in Los Angeles, where we see Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo, without helmets , deliver a stunning set, featuring their first hits around the world, Revolution 909, Rollin’ and Scratchin, Alive and Burnin’.

A live streaming followed on Twitch from 10:22 p.m. by more than 100,000 people (Wednesday morning, Daft Punk’s brand new Twitch channel already had 156,000 subscribers), which brought tears to the eyes of the most nostalgic on social networks .

But this gesture had a purpose: to draw attention to the box that the duo released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release in 1997 of their first album, the legendary Homework. This anniversary edition, which can already be found on streaming platforms, includes remixes by DJ Sneak, Motorbass, Slam, Kenlou, I:Cube, Roger Sanchez & Junior Sanchez, released at the time, in 1997. Some of these remixes were not available until now on listening platforms.

The vinyl versions of Homework and Alive 97 will be available again, from April 15, and are already in pre-order on the daftpunk.com site.

On February 22, 2021, Daft Punk panicked the music world by announcing its separation. An unexpected end clap announced in an enigmatic video posted on social networks, soberly titled Epilogue. The video of just over 8 minutes, taken from their feature film Electroma, showed Thomas and Guy-Man, in their traditional robot masks, walking through a desert. One ended up triggering the self-destruction system of the other, which was pulverized, on a background of sunset.
