(Prague) Avant les Jeux olympiques de Paris, une entreprise tchèque est en train d’imprimer en 3D une maquette de 14 mètres de haut de la tour Eiffel en utilisant des déchets marins recyclés.
« Le matériau pour la tour Eiffel provient des côtes thaïlandaises », explique à l’AFP Jan Hrebabecky, de la société d’impression 3DDen, la première au monde selon lui à utiliser du filament d’impression fabriqué à partir de déchets marins.
« Quand on jette une bouteille en plastique à la mer, elle y reste pour toujours […]but if you transform it into something useful, it has excellent mechanical and chemical qualities, great UV resistance, and it is practically immortal,” he points out.
The waste is collected by Thai fishermen, before being sorted, cleaned, desalinated and dried. A Swiss company then transforms them into pellets, which a Czech company converts into filaments for 3D printing.
The Czech entrepreneur’s printers are busy printing the 1,600 parts, reinforced with steel rods, that will make up the 14-meter-high model, which will be on display to the public at a local Olympic festival in the north of the country. , next to Lake Most, this summer, on the sidelines of the Paris Olympics.
During this event, people will be able to try out all 52 Olympic sports, watch the Games on giant screens and meet Czech athletes.
