(Prague) Actor Viggo Mortensen, known for his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Ringswill be awarded at the Czech film festival in Karlovy Vary, the organizers announced on Wednesday.
The 65-year-old Danish-American actor and director will receive the festival’s President’s Award at the opening ceremony on June 28, festival president Jiri Bartoska told reporters.
Viggo Mortensen “will present the film at the festival Till the end of the world which he directed and in which he plays one of the main roles,” added Bartoska, who is a popular Czech actor.
Other big guests at Karlovy Vary include Clive Owen, star of Closer and of Sin Cityand Steven Soderbergh, the director of Erin Brockovich and of Traffic.
Soderbergh will present his films Mr Kneff And Kafkaboth of which take place in the Czech capital and are dedicated to the Prague-born writer Franz Kafka.
Owen and Soderbergh will also receive the festival president’s award, as will German actor and director Daniel Bruehl, known for his roles in Inglourious Basterds And Rush.
Oscar-winning British actor Geoffrey Rush, known for shine, The speech of a king And Pirates of the Caribbeanwill be a member of the festival jury.
The 58e edition of the festival in Karlovy Vary, a spa town in the west of the Czech Republic, will take place from June 28 to July 6.
Last year, the festival welcomed more than 123,000 spectators.
