(OTTAWA) The families of six members of the Canadian Armed Forces who were killed in a Cyclone helicopter crash in April 2020 are suing the builder.
The lawsuit was filed in US Federal Court in Pennsylvania, where Sikorsky helicopters are built and tested.
Lawyers representing the families claim a design flaw caused the electronic flight control system to take control of the helicopter, plunging it into the Ionian Sea off the coast of Greece.
They also say pilots and the Royal Canadian Air Force were not made aware of the problem before the crash – and that US manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft has still not fixed the software glitch that was responsible.
The lawsuit seeks damages under US law.
The tragedy claimed the lives of Master Corporal Matthew Cousins, Sub-Lieutenants Abbigail Cowbrough and Matthew Pyke, and Captains Kevin Hagen, Brenden MacDonald and Maxime Miron-Morin.
