cyclist Julian Alaphilippe unveils his goals for 2022

After a well-deserved vacation, it’s time for Julian Alaphilippe to get back on the training routes. The 2022 season promises to be once again epic and rich in appointments. As was the case in 2021. The native of Saint-Amand-Montrond, in the Cher, showed his class and his panache in the race. A second consecutive coronation of world champion in cycling, a stage victory in the Tour de France and the yellow jersey worn one day, a third success on the Flèche Wallonne. Not to mention the birth of her first child.

Alaphilippe wants to shine on the Tour de France

The darling of the French public, which is the pride of Berry, is already ready to dream even bigger. This Monday, Alaphilippe gave an update on his objectives for the coming months. And there is no shortage of ambitions. “As you know, I always want to improve myself and become better. That’s why I have several goals in mind.”, launches the cyclist of the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl training. He first cites Liège-Bastogne-Liège, “a race which corresponds to my qualities and I did not go far from winning several times”.

The Tour de France obviously occupies a part of the mind of Julian Alaphilippe. “I would like to win a stage. To have done it last year with the world champion’s jersey was really incredible”, explains the Berrichon, referring to his success from the first stage. Without forgetting, of course, the world cycling championships at the end of September. Can he win a third world title in a row like Peter Sagan did in the 2010s? “I know I can’t win every race. But the most important thing is to give the maximum and to enjoy every moment on the bike”, answers Alaphilippe, who intends to defend his title.

Debut in 2022 on the roads of Provence

Like last year, Julian Alaphilippe will be back on the roads of France. And in this case in the Tour de Provence from February 10 to 13, which he finished in second place in the general classification in 2021. He will then participate in the Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico and Milan-San Remo in March.
