Cyclist hit by car in hit-and-run

A cyclist was hit by a car on Berri Street near Sainte-Catherine late Wednesday afternoon. The driver fled shortly after the collision, confirms the Montreal Police Department (SPVM).

“When the car cut off the cyclist, I saw him flying through the air,” said Guylaine Blais, who was driving her vehicle when the incident occurred.

She says a “black sports car” suddenly passed her on the right as she was going down Berri Street. At the same time, a bicycle was crossing the street perpendicularly. That’s when the collision occurred.

“He was seriously injured in the head with an open wound on his leg,” said the witness, who is also a nurse by profession. The SPVM indicates that the victim was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Guylaine Blais confirms that the vehicle was accelerating when it hit the bike and that it “did not stop.” The SPVM is currently investigating the accident and says it has identified the vehicle involved.

More details will follow.
