Cyclist fell into the Saint-Charles River | The identity of the young woman revealed

The identity of the young cyclist who perished Thursday by falling into the Saint-Charles River in Quebec City has been made public by the coroner. This is Ronel Mamadjibeye. She was 18 years old.

The tragedy occurred around 4:45 p.m. Thursday near rue du Pont, on the border between the Limoilou and Saint-Roch sectors.

Ronel Mamadjibeye, 18 years old and residing in Quebec, would have fallen from his bicycle in the Saint-Charles river, which crosses the capital. A child who accompanied him alerted an adult. A passerby in her fifties would have thrown herself into the water to try to save the young woman, in vain.

The body of Ronel Mamadjibeye was fished out at the beginning of the evening, after a huge commotion to help him. Cardiac resuscitation maneuvers were performed, without success. His identity was confirmed by the coroner’s office on Friday.

“On our side, the most probable thesis would be that of an accident”, indicated to The Press David Poitras, spokesperson for the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ). “There would be no criminal offense related to any of this. We will work in collaboration with the coroner for the continuation of his investigation. »

If confirmed, this drowning would be the 45e to be surveyed this summer in the province.
