Cyberattack against government sites

Since the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, Quebec government sites have been the subject of a “distributed denial of services” type cyberattack, according to the Ministry of Cybersecurity and Digital Technology.

In a press release published Wednesday afternoon, the Ministry of Cybersecurity explained that this type of cyberattack consists of “overloading a site by multiplying connection requests” and that certain government sites could be temporarily unavailable.

Still according to the ministry, there is no indication that data held by the government has been compromised.

“Specialists from the Ministry of Cybersecurity and Digital Affairs as well as the organizations concerned carry out investigations and ensure that the necessary mitigation measures and corrective measures are applied so that the situation can be restored as quickly as possible,” we can say. read in the press release.

The parent company of Météomédia also indicated that it had been affected by a “cybersecurity incident” which caused an outage on some of its data systems.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the weather forecast site was still not working.

It is unclear whether these incidents are related.
