Customs officers seize nearly 450 kg of herbal cannabis on the A9 in Narbonne

A man was sentenced to four years in prison this Monday for drug trafficking. He was arrested at the wheel of his utility vehicle on the A9 at the Narbonne Est toll on Thursday September 15.

On board, customs officers from the Narbonne brigade found 448 kg of herbal cannabis thanks to the narcotics search service dog. The drugs were hidden in nearly 300 heat-sealed bags stored in boxes. The value on the illicit market is estimated at 784,000 euros.

Eight tonnes seized since January

The driver, of Turkish nationality, said he was from Spain and travel to Germany for work. Tried before the Narbonne judicial court, he was also sentenced to a permanent ban from French territory and a customs fine of 780,000 euros.

Since the beginning of the year, customs officers from the Perpignan regional office have seized more than eight tonnes of narcotics.
