The Ramses II exhibition has just started on Friday April 7 at the Grande Halle de La Villette in Paris. It presents the precious sarcophagus of the Egyptian king as well as nearly 200 exceptional pieces.
It is an exhibition that is the subject of all attention. On the morning of April 7, visitors’ impatience was already being felt. They were 6,000 to be present that day. Inside, the magic operates, literally immersed in ancient Egypt. “Frankly, it makes you want to go to Egypt. I hope I can do it one day”, says a woman. Over 180 familiar objects are on display dating back to 4,000 years ago.

“There is this idea of permanence, of immutability and it is true that when we are faced with that, there is this kind of incredible serenity because the works survive”, comments Bénédicte Lhoyer, Egyptologist. Some even traveled hundreds of kilometers to be among the first visitors, like a couple from Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). The cedar coffin of Ramesses II is the star of the exhibit. He was loaned exceptionally by Egypt.
