Contagion of terror at the MAC
The inaugural conference of the exhibition Contagion of terror, currently on display in the temporary premises of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal at Place Ville Marie, is now available online. To see before or after a visit to this fascinating exhibition on the harmful effects of the Israeli software Pegasus, a work of the Israeli Eyal Weizman, director of the London research agency Forensic Architecture, with the collaboration of the American investigative journalist Laura Poitras.
The Jump on the Parc cinema website
The Beaubien, Park and Museum cinemas continue to offer online cinema. A novelty broadcast from tomorrow: The Jump, documentary by Giedre Zickyte devoted to one of the key events of the Cold War between the United States and the former USSR. In 1970, a Soviet vessel and a United States Coast Guard vessel passed each other closely off the American coast. It didn’t take more for a Lithuanian sailor, Simas Kudirka, to jump into the water in the hope of crossing to the West, as it was said at the time.

The Youn gallery presents until January 29 Tulipomania, an exhibition by Toronto artist Mark Liam Smith who reexamines Flemish floral still lifes from the 17th centurye century. “Liam Smith is drawn to this kind of painting for its inherent beauty and symbolism: the flowers represent the cycle of life and the accessories indicate the rarity, the drama, the inevitability of death,” says gallery owner Juno Youn. Three Quebecois docuses on Tënk
Tënk has just put three Quebec documentaries online. By Benoît Pilon, the film Roger Toupin, variety grocer (2003) is the chronicle of an improvised social club in a grocery store in the Plateau Mont-Royal. Presented at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, Carcasses (2009) by Denis Côté focuses on Jean-Paul Colmor who, in 40 years, has amassed hundreds of car wrecks on his property. Finally, Over My Dead Body (2011) by Brigitte Poupart is an apnea dive into the daily life of dancer and choreographer Dave St-Pierre while waiting for a lung transplant.
Fanny – The Right to Rock on Crave

The excellent documentary Fanny – The Right to Rock will premiere on Crave starting January 17, with French subtitles. The film directed by Bobbi Jo Hart tells the story of Fanny, a Californian group of rock pioneers founded in the 1960s whose history, and music, has unfortunately been forgotten. In addition to archival footage, the film shows the three musicians 50 years later, recording a new album. A great discovery.
Replay I Musici in Orford

As of January 20, the closing concert of the Orford Music 2021 festival will be webcast. Conducted by Jean-Marie Zeitouni, the chamber orchestra I Musici de Montréal performs a repertoire that is sometimes dancing, sometimes melancholy, which brings together the composers Kelly-Marie Murphy, Tchaikovsky (Memory of a dear place, op. 42) and Josef Suk. The concert is offered until January 26 at a cost of $ 20.
