Holographic Cabaret at TOHU
Circus, dance, magic, music… all presented in hologram thanks to the magic of the virtual. This is what the French company 14:20 offers with its holographic cabaret The night light, presented in North American premiere at TOHU. With its 10 paintings imbued with poetry, this twenty-minute show (followed by a 10-minute discussion) is a tribute to the sentinel, the lamp that watches over theaters when the shows have ended. Free. From Thursday to Sunday until September 4.
Return of Public indiscretions
For an 8e year, the Théâtre du Ricochet arrives in Montreal parks to present Public indiscretions, a free theatrical tour. On the program: seven short unpublished plays performed like daily conversations by duos of actors. The topics covered are diverse – toxic masculinity, breastfeeding in public, anti-militarism – and unfold from one park bench to another.
August 4 at Molson Park, August 10 at Ahuntsic Park and August 11 at Promenade Wellington in Verdun.
Indigenous presence takes off
The International First Peoples Festival will take off in Montreal on August 9th. Founded in 1990 by the Land InSights organization, the multidisciplinary event reaffirms the importance of First Nations artists, filmmakers, storytellers and dancers. The cinema is in the spotlight, as are the music concerts on the Place des Festivals. But also other forms of indigenous art in its wide variety of expression. First Peoples’ Presence will be held at the Place des Festivals and in various locations in the Quartier des Spectacles, from August 9 to 18.
Last weekend in Lanaudière
The Festival de Lanaudière ends its 2022 edition this weekend with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Orchester Métropolitain. The charismatic conductor will lead his band for two outdoor concerts that promise to be “epic”. First, on Saturday, August 6 at 8 p.m., the first act of The Valkyrie, Richard Wagner’s opera, with performers Christine Goerke, Brandon Jovanovich and Franz-Josef Selig. Then the next day, August 7 at 4 p.m., a final summer concert with pianist Hélène Grimaud. For her first performance in Lanaudière, the famous French pianist will perform the Piano Concerto in A minor by Robert Schumann.
