Cultural Suggestion: “Humor and Horror,” Nick Sikkuark’s Adorable Monsters at the NGC

Have you ever been simultaneously moved and horrified? This is the effect that Humor and horror, Posthumous retrospective of the career of Nick Sikkuark, sculptor, draftsman and painter from Nunavut, presented at the National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa, until March 24. Immersed in the heart of the Northern Lights, icy expanses and winter darkness, visitors tame larger-than-life creatures inspired by Inuit spirituality and the moods of its creator. They are made of bones, teeth, animal hair, stones and pencil strokes… But aren’t we a little like them?
