The Guingamp maternity hospital (Côtes-d’Armor) is threatened with closure because there are not enough doctors. The hospital therefore asked Cuban doctors to come and help.
It’s a symbolic handshake full of promises: that of saving the hospital. The Cuban ambassador traveled to Guingamp (Côtes-d’Armor) on Friday February 16 to meet elected officials and assure them of his support: “I think there are possibilities, but at least we’ll talk”. Talk about sending Cuban doctors to Guingamp. The city contacted the Central American country’s embassy to bring in additional medical personnel.
Several services threatened with closure
“Our ambition is, indeed, to have resources in terms of obstetrics, gynecology, emergency doctors. Today, we are not looking at long-term solutions, but at least helping in the short or medium term France to care for French men and women”, explains Vincent Le Meaux, the mayor of Guingamp. Indeed, there is an urgent need to act in the region: several services at the Guingamp public hospital are threatened with closure.
