CSSDM | Dissatisfaction with the closure of a remedial education service

Parents and teachers have expressed their disagreement with the decision of the Montreal school service center (CSSDM) to close a remedial education service for physically handicapped students.

The demonstration took place in front of the Saint-Gérard primary school, in the Villeray district. The Pedagogical Support Service for the Integration of Physically Handicapped Pupils (SSPI) will be abolished and the 22 remedial teachers it employs will be reassigned to schools.

Parents, teachers and school administrators fear that this will result in a drop in service for these students integrated into so-called regular schools who were entitled to hours with a remedial teacher.

The CSSDM ensures that the children will, on the contrary, have a “continuous” service and that it is a simple reorganization.
