Paramedics from the Federation of Health and Social Services (FSSS – CSN) launched a video on Sunday afternoon denouncing their salary conditions.
Without a collective agreement since April 2020, they will launch an intensified strike shortly. A video intended for the public entitled “Appel au respect” was shown on the sidelines of the demonstration held in Montreal at the Quartier des spectacles.
They were about thirty people waving placards displaying slogans intended for the Legault government.
“Our working conditions should also be a priority in the eyes of the government… However, after months of negotiations, the government is forgetting us. When we compare ourselves to other emergency jobs, the working conditions and the salary are not there, ”said the representative of the prehospital sector at the FSSS – CSN, Jean Gagnon.
The government, for its part, is proposing a salary increase of 2% per year over two years.
Some 3,500 paramedics are members of the FSSS – CSN.
“Paramedics are undoubtedly a priority group for the state and it does not appear at all in the government’s proposals. Their work is absolutely essential and it must be better recognized. The CSN will support them until they win their case, ”continues the vice-president of the FSSS – CSN, Lucie Longchamp.
