The President of the Republic clarified in an interview with France Inter this Saturday his vision of the Ukrainian conflict, close to its first anniversary. He believes that Ukraine must be helped to create the balance of power that will allow negotiations.
In this interview also given to journalists from Le Figaro and Le Journal du Dimanche, on his return from the Munich Security Conference, the French president made it clear that he did not share the point of view of those who want to charge , even crush, Russia and its President Vladimir Putin.
“Neither side can fully prevail.”
“I want Russia to be defeated in Ukraine, and I want Ukraine to be able to defend its position. But I am convinced that in the end it will not be settled militarily, explains Emmanuel Macron. I don’t think, like some, that Russia should be totally defeated, attacked on its soil. These observers want above all to crush Russia. This has never been France’s position and it never will be.”
To his eyes, “neither side can fully prevail. Neither Ukraine nor Russia, because the effects of mobilization are not as great as expected, and it itself has capability limits.”
