The attractive selection, the return of the great masters and a wind of renewal among the young stars in official competition: we can feel a wind of rebirth blowing in Cannes. Is it a decoy when the cultural bases waver? Perhaps, but this huge meeting of the seventh art, we burn to accompany it at the end of its race or at the end of its night.

In counterpoint to the cinephilia that vibrates at the Palace, journalists, under the spur of social media, are increasingly tracking down controversy. The one that sells the copy, as they say. Thus the presence of actor Johnny Depp, fallen in Hollywood, arouses more passions than the opening film Jeanne du Barry of Maïwenn, in which he embodies Louis XV at Versailles. Will he be booed? Incredible? Saving ? Guillotine? Each of his gestures and looks will be tracked. Like a smell of cooking.
