Rant: watch out, we’re pushing back!
The festival really screwed up at the Almodovar event on Wednesday. The journalists with tickets, badges around their necks, were turned back in front of the Debussy room because of the stars who had wanted to attend the film and the interview with the Spanish filmmaker. In short, the VIPs have taken their places. There were a lot of celebrities on the floor, Deneuve and company. But stars of the American media, including those of the Los Angeles Times and HollywoodReporter could not enter and shouted their indignation on their site. Especially since the rain fell hard on the heads of those who failed in the queue.
Favorite: Monia Chokri at her best
Simple as Sylvain by Quebecer Monia Chokri, presented at In some perspective sold out at the Palais and received a warm welcome. This is the best film and the least kitsch of the filmmaker of My brother’s wife, proposed here in the same section in 2018. We feel in the filmmaker a new softness and a mastery in the course of maturity. This burning passion between a teacher (Magalie Lépine-Blondeau) and a worker (Pierre-Yves Cardinal) opens a door to social classes, whether or not they are incompatible. Also on love itself in its erotic drive as well as through its sociological scope. André Turpin’s images are remarkable and the acting very convincing.
