Cross-country skiing | Antoine Cyr remains in the top 20 at the Tour de Ski

The Tour de Ski resumed on Wednesday near Davos, Switzerland, with the holding of a second freestyle sprint. Cross-country skiers Antoine Cyr and Olivier Léveillé both improved the result they obtained in this event in Italy on Saturday, without reaching the elimination races.


Cyr was the best Canadian in this fourth stage, ranking 32e. He recorded a time of 2:22.92 and missed the next round by 12 hundredths of a second. The 30 highest-ranked cross-country skiers advanced to the quarter-finals.

Saturday, the Gatinois took the 35e of the free sprint contested in Dobbiaco. He then finished 19e of the classic 10 km and the free pursuit to take the 19e provisional rank of the general classification of this 18e Ski tour. Place he still occupies at the end of Wednesday’s event.

Gold medalist in the freestyle sprint on Saturday, Frenchman Lucas Chanavat won once again in Switzerland. He emerged victorious in his first two races, then he beat the Swede Edvin Anger (+0.25 seconds) and the Italian Federico Pelligrino (+0.44 seconds) in the final.

Olivier Léveillé was ranked 66e with a time of 2 min 29 s.82 s. He occupies number 54e place in the provisional general classification of the competition. The Norwegian Harald Oestberg Amundsen is in the lead, followed by his compatriot Erik Valnes (+11 seconds) and Federico Pellegrino (+25 seconds).

The action resumes on Thursday in Davos with the classic-style pursuit events.
