[Critique] “Zero trouble”, DRUG | The duty

Men of tradition, that is what the members of DRUG are. As in sex, DRUGS and rock’n’roll. Nothing to do with trying to reinvent the wheel, or to save a musical genre which, obviously by listening Zero trouble, is not near death. Five of the supergroup’s six new songs (from Galaxie, Le Nombre, Papillon) celebrate on the surface debauchery, one-night stands (Cliche in the opening), but under its dilapidated air, the veterans also take a look at the failings of society. Garage rock bordering on punk, american bison stands against racist, snarling post-punk; the dancing Not true unbolt the conspiracy theorists and the introspective Sex Object is inspired by the #MeToo movement. The guitars thunder, the singer Ludwig Wax inhabits his lyrics with the same fury that he displayed at the time of The Number. In short, the instrumental DOPE distills the disturbing atmosphere of the most disturbing stoner rock bands, like a slow return to reality after an intense buzz.
