[Critique] “Traveller”, Ali Farka Touré

Some drawer bottoms reveal more valuable treasures than others. Disappeared on March 6, 2006, the fabulous Malian guitarist Ali Farka Touré did not leave many unreleased recordings. Traveler (supervised by his heir Vieux Farka Touré) is only the second original album since his death. Nine songs recorded over fifteen years, studio scraps and moments of touring that let you hear the genius of the desert blues guitar at its most relaxed and spontaneous. On three of these unreleased songs appears his old friend Oumou Sangaré, moments of complicity captured in 1995. Of these three precious songs, we will focus on Sadjona, Ali accompanied by his Old, the saxophones of Pee Wee Ellis and Josh Arcoleo responding to Africans, a splendor. And Kombo Galia in the finale, this moment of communion, Ali’s guitar conversing with the n’gonis of Mama Sissoko, Bassekou Kouyaté and Dassy Sarré, contrasts with the simplicity of the Malahani And Sambadio (Acoustic) presented at the beginning of the album.
