Never short of ideas or out of breath, Weezer returns to us fully pumped up after two albums in 2021. On the menu this time, a curious seasonal marathon: the group will release an EP each season in 2022. SZNZ: Spring opens the ball and leaves the listener somewhere between contentment, laughter and perplexity. On opening nightan opening that relies on a movement of the Four Seasons by Vivaldi, Rivers Cuomo sings with delirious enthusiasm that Shakespeare makes him happy, all garnished with little touches of recorder and mandolin… Are we kidding? We return to pure Weezer in the chorus, relieved. Inspired by magic, pagan myths and religious rites, each EP will have its own palette of colors and creatures, announces Weezer (here, chlorophyll green and wood elves?). Through this swaggering abundance, some more inspired titles stand out (A Little Bit of Love, The Sound of Drums). Not a great vintage, but the post-Omicron spring energy that infuses the songs ends up contaminating us.
