[Critique] “Solastalgia”, Jérôme Dupras, Jérôme Dupuis-Cloutier, Guillaume Saint-Laurent

My impressions: sadness and beauty, muted anger, breath of hope. Am I inspired by the eight pieces themselves, instrumentation, melodies, arrangements? Or is it the mission of the album, this project Solastalgiafomented by activist-artists Jérôme Dupras, Jérôme Dupuis-Cloutier and Guillaume Saint-Laurent, which makes everything sound like a distress call? Or all at once? Let’s say that the two paths lead to the same place: place of meeting and contemplation, agora and springboard, listening space. Everyone has their references. I hear echoes of Herb Alpert in Montmorencyflights of piano à la Claude Léveillée in carmantinesomething from the TV show’s callsign Sincerely yours In The glacier of the apocalypseeven the evocation of whale song in Humpback. And you ? The only certainty is the soundtrack of the short films from the Champagne club sandwich studio, animated by Vincent Hurtubise-Martin. But still ? A living world. For how long ?
