[Critique] “Smalltown Stardust,” King Tuff

Kyle Thomas, who we know under the pseudonym of King Tuff, returns with a curious album, Smalltown Stardust, where magic and spontaneity operate in remarkable fullness. To achieve this result, the singer-songwriter returned to his small Vermont hometown of Brattleboro, which obviously gave him a new impetus. If King Tuff’s words reflect such simple and generous things as nature, tenderness and community, his rock and garage music merges sometimes in sublime orchestration, sometimes in intoxicating riffs with country and psychedelic notes. The eleven songs on his sixth solo album are as wonderfully catchy as each other. We fall under the spell Love Letters to Plants, and the craze is confirmed with titles like Portrait of God, Pebbles in a StreamAnd RockRiver, which make us experience graceful emotions. In short, Smalltown Stardust radiates love and good humor!
