[Critique] “Slow Down. 21 covers of songs 1963-1964”, The Beatles

At high volume, the feeling seizes: you feel in the middle of the group during the recording. Again, the Fan Club Beatles Quebec delights. In 2020, the compilation The Beatles. 25 songs from albums 1963-1964already amazed: the stereo remixing made in Quebec gave the mono tracks dimension and warmth. It’s just as true for these great covers of Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins and Arthur Alexander. Modern technology making it possible to isolate instruments and voices, then to create a three-dimensional place, Mathieu Lacourse and Marc St-Onge have worked remarkably well. Bass and drums hold their driving role better, the guitars unravel (but not too much). Everything is better! An interesting bias presides over the chosen order: it goes decreasing. From the most electrifying rock’n’roll to the less furious rockabilly, from Motown groove to more pop hits from the Brill Building, we end up with ballads for adults prized by McCartney: debatable! Achievement nonetheless.
