[Critique] “Rail Nomads”, West Trainz

During the pandemic, Erik West Millette did not cross the world on the tracks. His West Trainz project was in the station, not to say in storage. How to move forward without rolling, that was the question? The answers were in his face. With his accomplice Olaf Gundel, Erik traveled… in time. He made himself heard in the jargon of the hobos, these railroad nomads. He retconned the narrative thread of the return to the north of his great-grandfather Harry West, freed from slavery. With its string of instrument handlers (Francis Covan, Yves Desrosiers, in particular) and speaking or singing voices (Thomas Hellman, Paule Bussières, Mafé, a real little crowd), the friends have created a transcontinental album where musical genres come into play collision and grow bolder in collusion, from blues to rap. Fascinating equipped with humans who are said to be on the fringes, while they are in the middle of life. A booklet and a book accompany the listening, if necessary. Ready for departure?
