[Critique] “Programmed obedience”, Félix Soude

Sometimes, in good faith, a press release does too much. The mention “Americana-inspired folk rock album sixties in the description of what will be found on Félix Soude’s fourth album mainly describes the problem. We play musical chairs. Thereby Troubadour, vigorous and tasty intro country, should set the tone, right? Oh no. The song after I will do it, Beatles-Byrds twelve-string guitar in signature, could launch another album. And then ? Imagine the Monkees in French. To go where ? The song titled I wanted to help him sounds so Dédé Fortin that one thinks of a pastiche of Get out of there. And after ? When we get to It’ll be OK, you would swear… Fred Fortin. Nothing unpleasant in itself: dizzying ride, that’s all. Fortunately, Félix has a sense of turning (and soldering!). While the guy gets lost in his maze of borrowings, the verb holds firm. As long as you follow the thread, you get a quilt with surprisingly realistic patterns. Indescribable and relevant, it could be.
