[Critique] “Pavlov’s female dog”, Cato Fortin

First novel by Cato Fortin, Pavlov’s female dog depicts a young thirty-year-old who will face a succession of misfortunes, including the death of her beloved grandmother. While the themes addressed are serious, the story abounds in delirious scenes where life, female solidarity and uninhibited sexuality are celebrated with panache — regardless of the age, social class, sexual orientation and identity of the gender. It must be said that after her last breath, the joyful and sassy widow reserves her share of surprises for her granddaughter: “My grandmother had her ass tattooed and I didn’t know anything about it, and now her ass doesn’t exist. more. » In the vein of Bandaged girls-commandos (Les Herbes rouges, 1976), by Josée Yvon, and Beautiful and dangerous women (XYZ, 2021), by Kai Cheng Thom, this playful novel with raw language and unbridled imagination loudly calls for a revolution in morals, loudly condemns toxic masculinity and calls uncompromisingly for the end of patriarchy.
