[Critique] “Our possibilities”, Amélie Veille

Fifth album, six years later. A lot has happened, in six years, for Amélie Veille: the pandemic, like everyone else, but also her world, upside down. What was and is no longer, what could have been but will not be, a range of unfinished or future possibilities: the (too?) soft manner of the performer glides over the dramas. The brevity of the adventure in Three little tricksthe purpose of life oaths in my certaintythe magnificent ruins of love (Dance with Me), the doubt of the “poor foundation” (Undecided), the destiny that is written (Not like before), confidence against all odds (Breathe). And the finale found at Bécaud/Delanoë (I come back for you) which smacks of the easy way out. Everything is there but in filigree, veil of softness on the pains. We understand – Stéphane Rancourt to do everything, Maxime Landry in reinforcement – that salvation will pass through the support of the general public. Or not. Meritorious risk, salutary gesture.
