A showcase for Quebec green gold
It’s no secret: trees are an invaluable asset, both economically and in the fight against climate change. In order to help preserve our precious ally, the forest of Quebec, Savoir Média has decided to tackle received ideas by giving a voice to those who have made it their hobbyhorse. The fascinating documentary series, hosted by journalist Gabrielle Anctil, reveals some innovative measures found in particular by researchers from the Université du Québec network to achieve real sustainable development and viable management of the resource.
And as viewers will be able to see from the first episode of The battle for the forest, it is often by paying attention to the past that solutions for the future emerge. To do this, Gabrielle Anctil, accompanied by specialists, does not hesitate to go deep into the majesty of the province’s ancestral woods, from Bas-Saint-Laurent to Abitibi-Témiscamingue, to imagine what will make healthy forests of tomorrow, whether they are located in the countryside or in urban areas.

The malfunctions of a system
Head to Ontario and the dark shores of Lake Superior for Crave’s new documentary series, written, produced and hosted by Anishinabe journalist and author Ryan McMahon. Inspired by an episode of the podcast Canadaland, Thunder Bay Murders travel back in time to the 2000s and look back at the appalling murders that took place in this city. Nearly two decades ago, many bodies of Aboriginal teenagers were indeed discovered in the river that crosses this city marked for a long time by hate crimes and systemic racism suffered by First Nations.
Faced with the failure of the investigations of the Thunder Bay police and social services, Ryan McMahon decided to follow the trail of three hypotheses to explain these murders, still unsolved. There is that of the serial killer first, then that of group violence, but the most chilling – and undoubtedly the most likely – to date remains that of racist crimes. Over Thunder Bay Murderswe also discover that the Ontario city alone crystallizes the taboo of colonialism in Canada.

Another fight…
Radical change of tone, lighter this time, with the new Unis TV show presented by comedian Jonathan Roberge. This one arbitrates comic duels between two personalities full of self-mockery, whose ammunition is none other than publications (videos, photos, montages, memes, advertisements, etc.) published on the Web. The winner, of course, is the one with the most laughs… and the public vote.
The playfulness of the host goes even much further, and the guests do not escape it, since absurd and extravagant digital finds, a bit embarrassing at times, which concern them are revealed over the episodes. Marie-Soleil Dion, Korine Côté, Rita Baga, Simon Boulerice or even Neev compete for example in The web war.
