[Critique] “Normal”, hurts | The duty

Zen Bamboo is dead, long live you! After the implosion of the young rock group shortly after the release of its only album in the spring of 2020, the heart of the group from Saint-Lambert started beating again under another name, and by exploring new musical avenues. A real sponge, wounds, who is not afraid to stretch the musical elastic, at the risk of seeing it break — there is a constant tension in the songs of Normal, which casts a wide net in the indie rock spectrum. There’s Malajube and Pixies in arid love, well dancing postpunk and tight cadence on the excellent black gloves, a touch of electro-pop in the synthetic rhythm of meteor And small moonof youthful pop-punk in digdig, collaboration with Sophia Bel, and more classic indie rock in anyfuckingway, co-written with friend Thierry Larose, Samuel Beaulé and co-director Valentin Ignat. Of Normal emerges something spontaneous and unstable, as if the young group had not yet fully identified its identity, but where each song sounds like a good track to follow to get there.
