For anyone interested in the pianoforte in Mozart, Kristian Bezuidenhout’s records are often captivating. He plays here on a copy of an instrument by the master Walter made by Paul McNulty, the factor also appreciated by Ronald Brautigam. This recording is distinguished by its very “princely salon” dimensions, with an orchestra of only 23 musicians. This characteristic is accurately rendered by technicians Martin Sauer and Tobias Lehmann, who never seek to fatten the sound or give it a concert hall halo. The positioning of the soloist in the group is perfect. We are therefore completely in a “post-son-of-Bach” aesthetics with nevertheless a very sensitive expressiveness (but didn’t CPE Bach invent Empfindsamkeit – sensitivity – in music, precisely?) which translates in a central episode of Concerto notoh 9 ” Young man “ absolutely magical. This Concerto noh 9 imposes itself in the large versions on pianoforte. the 18e Concerto well balanced, with beautiful old woods, distinguished by cadences from Bezuidenhout himself.
