[Critique] “Most Normal”, Gilla Band

No, there’s nothing normal about this third album by Irish post-punk experimental band Gilla Band (formerly known as Girl Band). Let’s be clear, this type of rock song, noise and sometimes electronic, will not be unanimous, but some will feel an incredible adrenaline rush as the hardcore drums pass like a force 5 tornado at the end of Bin Liner Fashionwhich comes crashing against the brief capgras, audio collage between radio interference and spoken word. Gilla Band emerges from the pandemic with a renewed audacity allowing fascinating singer Dara Kiely to speak freely (on her mental health issues, this is the case on the poignant post-ryan, at the end of the album) and in a way as unique as a Geordie Greep from the black midi group, to which we will dare to compare the group. Ugly, brutal, but above all exquisite, in this distorted, absurd, abrasive and unpredictable vision of rock, nourished by anxieties of a candor that pierces the sound barrier erected by Gilla Band.
