[Critique] “Momentum EP”, Poirier | The duty

Two years after having explored a form of dancing song but with moderate tempos, on the album Soft Powerthe composer, remixer and DJ Poirier invites us to once again take over the dance floors with this dapper mini-album half sung by guests Waahli and Sandra Bella, the latter hiding behind two stage names, Angel Wings (which is inspire success 212 by Azealia Banks on Leader) and Ms. Bella. From experimental hip-hop to soca/dancehall, Poirier has in recent years dabbled in the various flavors of afrobeats emerging from Nigeria, West Africa and South Africa — the amapiano sound exudes a softer tempo bouncing behind Waahli’s voice on Teke Frenperformed in Creole, while the small synth motif of shake mama (with Ms. Bella, the instrumental version giving the name to the EP) will rather recall the style of the Bacardi house/kwaito scene from the same region. The groove of royal-royal does not hide his Congolese origins – contagious, all that!
