[Critique] “Melt Away: A Tribute to Brian Wilson”, She & Him

Note: Brian Wilson. Stars on the run Zooey Deschanel (She) and Mr. Ward (Him) did not devote this anthology of exquisite re-readings to the Beach Boys. Don’t give a shit about surfboards. Their seventh jaunt off the set is all about people duly deepening their darling Brian. The lovebirds have created a space where Brian Wilson’s inventive spirit and pure heart come together adorably. Choose the lesser known Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on my Shoulder)let the tender melody float in an echo chamber, with pedal steel and acoustic guitar to carry Zooey’s voice – a little bombastic, admittedly –, everything testifies to a desire to express emotion in front of so much beauty. There are facilities, which correspond to the most celebrated titles (was it necessary to rub shoulders with Wouldn’t It Be Nice ?), but the majority of the decantations, especially This Whole World, Meant for You and Do It Again (with Brian’s participation), delighted. Better, liquefy.
