[Critique] «Mañana Será Bonito», Karol G

On the surface, the reggaeton scene seems to be the preserve of men, from Tego Calderon and Daddy Yankee 20 years ago to J Balvin, Maluma and Bad Bunny today. Karol G has her say: the Colombian singer-songwriter presents her fourth album Manana Sera Bonito— “Tomorrow will be beautiful,” she sings to convince herself of this, after a heartbreak that she details in 17 short and powerful songs. Karol G seeks less to innovate in the genre as Bad Bunny and the Spanish Rosalía do, in their own way, than to enrich it with new classics, the strength of the musician resting on her pen and her intuition for the striking melodies. The album is stuffed with Miendra Me Curo Del Cora (While I heal my heartwith its sample of Don’t Worry Be Happy) and the classic dem bow rhythm of XNO sweet and sour THQ (duet with Shakira) to the small pop and new wave bomb You Gafitas, co-written with Finneas. We also appreciate the links it maintains with classic Colombian pop, on Gucci Los Panoswhich evokes the sertanejo style.
