[Critique] “Let’s Start Here”, Lil Yachty

Based in Atlanta, the young Lil Yachty is part of the fanciest fringe of the American rap scene, generally making his albums a big party with friends, and this fifth album does not change his habits, except for this important detail: Yachty proposes here a psychedelic rock album, and his friends today are Mac DeMarco, Alex G — both on the introspective and boring 🙁 failure (: —, or even Ben Goldwasser, leader of MGMT, on the disco tune Drive ME Crazy!, sung by Diana Gordon. The rapper broadens his musical horizons, we salute the gesture, especially since he impresses from the long tea BLACK seminole. as well as with the ride- in the opening, the voice modulated by the autotune, which, in this psychedelic soul-rock context, is appropriate. However, once the gesture is made, we quickly realize that the rapper has not developed his concept, remaining on the surface of those things that, from Pink Floyd to The Flaming Lips, others have done better. It’s great, it sounds good, you can listen to it with a smile, butLet’s Start Here lack of belief.
