[Critique] “La Passione”, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven

The title, which takes up that of the Symphony noh 49 by Haydn at the heart of the program, also unites what could be called “vocal scenes”: the Scene from Berenice and Solo e pensoso, of Haydn, No more. Tutto ascoltai… Non temer, amato bene », K.490 (not to be confused with K.505which leads to the same words) and ” Ma tu tremi, o mio tesoro then the Ah! perfidious by Beethoven. The major substrate of the CD is therefore not orchestral, but vocal. It is, basically, a very intelligent “classical” recital by the German soprano Christina Landshamer who fully deserved this showcase of choice. Aged 45, Landshamer is therefore 10 years younger than Dorothea Röschmann, an artist whose aura is greater, even if the song of her youngest touches us much more. The subject of debate here will be the choice of Landshamer (Mozart’s voice) to venture to the Ah! perfidiousif we consider that this aria by Beethoven ideally suits the profile of female singers embodying Leonore in Fidelio. Akamus deploys an admirable palette of shades everywhere.
